End of Greatness EP - Lab16
Samuli Kemppi has been making big strides in the techno scene for some time now, with releases on Komisch, Prologue and Mote-Evolver providing strong examples of the Finnish producers slick and precise minimalist style.
Superclusters on the A side of this Labrynth release is a perfect example of Samuli's ability to contrast deep warm bass and tones, with cold and piercing synthetic components. It is exactly this juxtaposition of contrasting elements that creates such a strong impact. Thought provoking futuristic techno of the highest standard.
The remix of Superclusters by Inigo Kennedy provides an alternate slant on the original as any good remix should. Re-working the bass Inigo adds his own trademark melancholic and ethereal ambiences to a solid and crisp percussion led floor track. Another producer at the very top of his game.
On the B side michaelangelo remixes the second Samuli Kemppi track called Filaments. Taking a much deeper and stripped down approach, the track pulses and slides effortlessly into deeper and darker territory, evolving and morphing through desolate and sinister landscapes of dub and drones.
The original Filaments track centres around a menacing overdriven bass throb and a bass drum that pulses below Samuli's trademark hats and rides. This creates a hypnotic and moody journey that almost overwhelms the senses. Distant and evocative signal echoes and eerie bell like synths induce an extrasensory and supernal sound within the very fabric of the mind. Killer!!
